TORONTO — The Ontario government is investing over $13 million in 11 training projects to help over 9,000 people in Niagara and surrounding areas access better training.
The money will go towards a variety of sectors for a range of positions in construction, manufacturing and food and beverage processing.
The construction-specific funding recipients include:
Civiconnect
- Civiconnect Youth Community Engagement OrganizationÌýis receivingÌý$2.5 millionÌýto provide 190 youth with paid, hands-on learning in trades such as carpentry, millwright, welding, cabinetry and machining.
- Trainees will get three weeks of intensive training at Niagara College, safety training from local unions and 12 weeks of on-the-job experience with local businesses.

Edge Factor Inc.
- Edge Factor Inc. is receivingÌý$1.08 millionÌýto partner with unions, employers and training halls across the province to train 5,400 youth and individuals from underrepresented communities, helping them to explore careers in the skilled trades through virtual reality.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- Local 303 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is receivingÌý$635,728Ìýto train new apprentices in the electrical trade.
- Participants will take six weeks of classes at the IBEW training centre. After training, participants will be placed with a contractor for 12 weeks on-the-job training.

Niagara Home Builders’ Association
- The Niagara Home Builders’ Association (NHBA) is receivingÌý$1.39 millionÌýto help strengthen the construction labour force.
- Participants will complete a 16-week program with academic training and job placement opportunities.

Niagara Industrial Association
- The Niagara Industrial Association is receivingÌý$581,500Ìýto establish an industry-led training program in Niagara. Led by manufacturers, the academy’s program will provide participants with mentorship through on-the-job training to meet immediate and longer-term business needs in Niagara and across Ontario.
