Uxbridge hospital to undergo expansion, new LTC home in the works

UXBRIDGE, ONT. — The small town of Uxbridge recently received a funding boost from the Ontario government to the tune of $8.9 million, which will go towards the  of Oak Valley Health’s Uxbridge Hospital site.

What’s more, a brand new 192-bed long-term care home co-located on the hospital campus is also in the works.

This new funding will allow Oak Valley Health to begin early works activities to ready the site for the creation of a larger space, explains a release.

The next stage of the project includes the construction of the east portion of the north service road, the building of a retaining wall and re-grading work.

Upgrades at the hospital will include:

  • Increased patient capacity, with the addition of up to 11 new beds, bringing the total number of beds at the hospital to 31.
  • Expansion of services, including diagnostic imaging, cardiorespiratory services and laboratory and pharmacy services.
  • Increased access to inpatient, emergency and ambulatory services.

As a next step, the government is working with Oak Valley Health and Infrastructure Ontario to issue the Request for Proposals to tender the project.
